On August
13, 2005 the members of the famed 80's band The Apes found themselves looking down the road of the past while skipping
towards the future.
Scott had just finished the repair work of the water Pipe lines for the entire 759 E. 525
N. Grass watering system. He was telling stories about the crazed fans at the beginning of The Apes career to Brad's son Ethan.
Realizing he had let a good thing slip past, he and Brad got together to talk about a reunion.
"The minute
Scott and I started talking the musical juices that had been clogged somewhere between my shoulder blades and left ear started
to flow. We actually started to sing while we talked." Said Brad. "It was amazing."
Scott then ran downstairs and grabbed his trumpet, while Brad "finger picked" a few tunes that had come
to his head at the piano.
Scott's trumpet had come through the hands of his Uncle Blaine R. Smith, to his late foster Brother
Rupert Mike Carroll to him. It had been collecting dust in the back storage room.
"Boy did it feel good to press my lips against that mouth piece and toot. I felt a few cobwebs blow
out of my lungs." Scott said about his re-uniting with his trumpet. "Brad and I are wondering how using the trumpet that both
Blaine and Mike used might affect the royalties. It will kill us if we need to split the money with Blaine and the Navajo
Nation."
They talked about the new album, and what message they hope to send. Brad said: “I’m just
hoping people will get the message that Rock and roll is not dead, but it is also saving the world from all kinds of crazy
things.” It was that message that led Brad to write his first original song in years. It is fittingly named “Rock
and roll saved the world.”
Scott’s message was more lighthearted. “I want t people to turn off there walkman’s
after hearing our new CD and say’ Man, I want to get out and dance. I want to look good tonight.’ That’s
what I want the fans to do.” Scott and Brad have been working on the song “Don’t forget to shine your shoes.”
The new Album is sure to bring a smile to
your face. It will have new recording as well as updated versions of some of The Apes classics.
